BAT endorsed by PAT - World's Premier Training System
The Billiard Aim Trainer is now being used by the premier training system in the world, the Player Ability Test (PAT).
About PAT
PAT stands for playing ability test. What exactly does that mean? The answer can be found in another form of sports – martial arts. In martial arts the combatants measure their abilities in special tests. Successful combatants are allowed to wear a certain coloured belt, showing his technical level to all others. The PAT system works in a similar way. If you are successful in the playing ability test, the billiard player may wear a certain coloured emblem.
Playing ability test
There are 4 different tests for different technical levels, ranging from amateurs to top players in the world elite. Each PAT is made up of 10 single exercises which document and evaluate special billiard skills. For example stroke quality, aiming and position play. Each exercise results in a numerical value correlating to the result as a percentage (0 to 100 points or percent). Because you can achieve more than 100 points in each exercise you don’t have to achieve 100 points in each exercise to get 1000 points for a complete test. You might have 80 points in exercise one and 130 in exercise two. This makes it possible to get more than 1000 points in your result.
The emblem system Emblems rewarding achievement stand out as shining examples and can be very motivating – as we know from school sports or martial arts. The World Pool Association (WPA – officially recognised by the IOC) has therefore developed a special colour emblem system.
The Billiards Training Company is proud to be a partner with PAT who are also now our first distributors in Europe.

The History of the BAT
I grew up in Australia and started playing pool at age 8 and then snooker on 12 foot tables by 11. I learnt the traditional aiming system employed in snooker, namely, the 3-cut system, wherein you first learn to identify a 1/2 ball cut and then the 1/4 and 3/4 ball. Later with a more thorough understanding of the geometry of pool, I correlated these cut shots to the actual degree of the angle they create (30, 49 and 14) respectively.
I came to the US in 1994 but did not play pool here until 2000. With my good fundamentals and knowledge, I quickly progressed to be a formidable player in the local area. Many younger players approached me to teach them what I knew and I gladly complied. However, one thing baffled me - the ghost ball system. It seemed that that was the only aiming system pool players knew, and so the mention of a 3-cut system was very foreign to these players. I had never actually heard of the ghost ball technique until I started playing pool in the US and I was not about to change something that wasn't broken. My system worked fine for me. But I wondered: how do I explain it to others?
It seemed to me that the reason why the ghost ball system flourished was simply because of its simplicity. There was nothing really scientific or difficult about it. One only had to imagine a cue ball (ghost) at contact and try to send the actual cue ball to that imaginery spot on the table. Sounded easier enough. Of course, the problem with this system is that it is completely relevant. One person's idea of where that "ghost ball" is will be different from another person's perspective. Therefore the system is fundementally flawed and frankly it is really just a "guessing system." Ask any player to explain it to you, and a typical reply will be: "I just sort of feel my way around." Fair enough, but this is certainly not scientific.
I knew the 3-cut system was far superior and much more scientific, simply because it’s sole reference point was the edge of the cue ball – something that everyone could see and actually point at. Contrary to the ghost ball, the edge of the object ball is always absolute from the point of view of looking at the cut angle from behind the cue ball. The problem was how to teach this system; how to show a player what a half ball cut actually looks like from the point of view of the cue ball at the time of the collision.
The "holy grail" of any billiard aiming system is to be able to see through the cue ball. But more than that, to actually correlate what you could see when looking through a cue ball, with what was actually happening at contact. In other words, connecting the aiming line of the cue ball to the actual contact point. Enter the BAT!
The BAT solved the problem beautifully. The product went through 5 design phases and Allison Fisher was involved through the later stages. In the end, we invented a product that really makes aiming a whole lot easier. It illuminates what is actually taking place when two balls collide to create the desired angle. It gives the user five essential pieces of information that he/she can take away to use later in their game.
- The exact contact point (as seen from the position of the horizontal cue ball plane)
- The exact degree of the angle created when the two balls collide
- The exact line of aim needed to send the object ball on the correct angle to the pocket
- How much of the object ball is being cut
- The tangent path of the cue ball after contact
It is our opinion and the belief of many of our customers that the BAT is the best billird aim trainer on the market. We encourage you to test it out yourself. If you are not fully satisfied within 30 days of your purchase, you can return it for a full refund. No questions asked.

BAT receives approval of German National Coach
The Billiards Training Company is in talks with the people behind the PAT system (Player Ability Test) to see how the BAT aiming tool and PAT education/analysis systems can cooperate. Samples of the BAT were sent to the executive directors of PAT, one of whom was Mr. Andreas Huber, the German National Coach. Professional player, Ralph Ekhert commented on the experience: "Mr. Andreas Huber (German National Coach) from our Team, had a closer look to your BAT tool. Mostly because he, like Mr. Jorgen Sandman, are a lot more experienced with beginners. His feedback was in fact very good and he said that it even might have it's use for more experienced players."
